Workaholism and the High-Achieving Woman

How to recognize workaholism, the reasons for it and what to do about it.

The current world is built for burnout. With the ever-growing access to technology and the way we are expected to multi-task and be endlessly plugged in, no wonder we are all checking out.

And the thing is... it's more addictive than sugar, alcohol and drugs, and also just as harmful.

Relationships start to collapse, health starts to decline, mental health starts to crumble... it's not a pretty picture. Yet here we all are, still plugged in, working over-time, and waking up the next day to do it all over again.

Why?

To prove our worthiness.

Because being a workaholic, and even being stressed, is glorified by our society. We are celebrated for multi-tasking, for accomplishing, for being super-woman. And high-achieving women are especially susceptible to falling into this trap.

There's an imbalance in our work culture between men and women, and women are consistently working harder and harder to surpass the gender bias that exists. In a research study, they found men typically go for a higher position when they have 60% of the required skills, where women feel we must be 100% qualified to reach up.

Women often work above and beyond the requirements, and that includes for our home lives too. We are laser-focused on success, and it's slowly killing us. Women have gotten a seat at the table, but now we're having to prove our right to be there, and we even deep down question if we're good enough. But we don't stop to feel... we keep pushing on, harder and harder until... we break.

Enter burnout.

Burnout happens in 3 areas: Emotional, physical and mental. Our physical body has been in "stress" mode for too long and begins to not function properly. Our emotions have been pressed down into our subconscious and are now wreaking havoc on our inner world. Our minds have been on overdrive, and the monkey mind isn't letting us sleep or enjoy anymore.

If you want to avoid or heal from burnout, you must be willing to become curious about why you're so focused on work, and what you're avoiding by constantly being in success mode. Then, and only then, will the answers arrive on how to heal from it.

The most important myth to bust is this: You don't have to be stressed to be successful.

It is 100% possible to live a peaceful, happy and abundant life with fulfilling relationships, resilient health, and solid finances, while being successful in your career. Success does NOT need to be a death sentence.

However, it does take the right tools and skills to get there.
